‘Sanctum’ Wins Top Awards

The success of ‘Sanctum’ apartment developement in Richmount Street, Cronulla, is a graphic example of how far the design of apartment buildings has progressed. The curvaceous building is infinitely better in form, function and style than the neighbouring three-storey walk-ups which were built in a bygone era.

The inspirational work of art does justice to the well located site, and showcases impeccable craftsmanship, a rich palette of materials and clever environmental initiatives.

Sanctum has exceeded all expectations and was recently announced as the winner of two major industry awards;

The Housing Institute of Australia (HIA) announced the development as the winner of the 2010 HIA CSR NSW Housing Awards - Apartment Project of the Year.

In awarding CABE’s Sanctum the award, the judges stated, “this coastal suburb development that utilizes 4 blocks to produce 18 contemporary stylish apartments that have wonderful natural light, cross-flow ventilation, and individual privacy brings new levels of design to apartment living……Attention to detail in design through to construction finishes has produced a superb result.”

This award was followed by recognition from the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) at the 2010 UDIA NSW Austral Bricks Awards, with CABE’s ‘Sanctum’ development named as the winner of the Best Residential Development.

The UDIA NSW President, Judy McKittrick congratulated the winners, recognizing them as the “very best in urban development in NSW & ACT”, further adding “the winners have excelled and distinguished themselves amongst the highest quality competition, and are true testaments to the excellent standard of development taking place….with the benchmark for excellence being raised yet again.”

The building’s sculptured façade features ribbed panels of weathered copper. This tactile outer ‘skin’ – the world’s most expensive cladding material – is an example of CABE’s quest to ensure ‘Sanctum’ apartments are exceptional in every way.

It becomes even more obvious the moment you step through the sandstone entry and landscaped courtyard into a central atrium with operable glass louvres. Bathed in natural light, the atrium also acts as a breezeway, ventilating each apartment.

The building has been designed to ‘breath’, and by opening the louvres you take advantage of the breeze.

The style and grace of ‘Sanctum’ is set to stand the test of time, and become a benchmark for other developers to try to emulate. It is a pet-friendly building, with landscaped areas and mature trees aiding privacy.
